“Motivated by their desire to
get involved in the commu-
nity, a mother and her two
daughters started Emaral
Investments in order to
invest in various causes close
to their hearts. They decided
to support the Nature Con-
servancy of Canada by
making an annual donation.
It was after a visit to the Jean-
Paul-Riopelle Nature Reserve
and Pointe de Saint-Vallier
that they realized the amount
of work done here and felt
proud of their contributions.”

The conservation of the Portage Lake property,
which extends over 7,000 acres (2,832 hectares)
and is adjacent to a 1,300-square-ki lometre
protected area in the United States. The property
consists of four lakes, a maple forest and an outfit-
ting business. The landowner’s gracious donation
of a large part of his property is a significant
contribution to conservation.
Securing one of the most beautiful areas in the Gaspé
Peninsula to conserve its significant ecological values.
represents the only wooded area and
one of the rare intact coastal forests on Pointe Saint-
Pierre. NCC has protected 75 acres (30 hectares) of
shoreline forest here, which shelters high-quality
habitat for migrating birds. NCC plans to make this
exceptional location accessible to the public.
Measuring 13,000 acres (5,200 hectares), the
Mount Hereford property is the largest area
conserved to date by NCC in Quebec. This
mountain and its adjacent lands are now
conserved thanks to the generous land dona-
tion from Neil and Louise Tillotson. Close to
600 acres (240 hectares) will be designated a
nature reserve and the remaining 12,400 acres
(5,000 hectares) are already under a conserva-
tion agreement with Forêt Hereford Inc.
