LOOKING
AHEAD
Goals for 2013–2014
Our five-year strategic plan
Investing $10 million in the stewardship of our
protected lands and developing a fundraising
program focused on long-term stewardship;
Protecting an additional 50,000 acres (20,234
hectares) of land;
Conserving at least 90 percent of our new
properties within a “natural area” — areas
where NCC has created a conservation plan
to focus its work on the most important
conservation properties;
Enhancing our corporate program to further
diversify our funding sources by developing a
leadership council aimed at individuals;
Recruiting 240 new members to our Nature
Legacy Society — individuals who have confirmed
that they have left a bequest in their will to NCC;
Growing our supporter base to 150,000 individuals;
Offering more than 140 Conservation Volunteers
events and hiring 40 conservation interns to
work on NCC conservation projects during the
spring and summer seasons;
Maintaining a staff satisfaction index of
more than 75 percent.
Conservation
goals:
doubling the amount of
money spent on stewardship over the period, and
protecting an additional 500,000 acres (202,340
hectares), providing habitat for 25 percent of
Canada’s at-risk species by 2017;
Development
goals:
broadening our donor base,
creating a larger planned giving and bequest pro-
gram and building an effective stewardship fund;
Influence and outreach goals:
implementing
a marketing strategy, increasing our supporter
base to 250,000 Canadians, engaging more
volunteers in our work, and encouraging
hands-on conservation in the public at large;
Capacity, support and resource goals:
working
more efficiently and being an employer of choice
in the environmental not-for-profit sector.
While our long-term conservation outcome tar-
gets are set in our five-year strategic plan, which
also includes goals for increasing the funding
and support that we will need to achieve those
outcomes, our 2013–2014 goals include:
In 2012 NCC completed a five-year strategic plan.
This plan will guide our activities to ensure we
achieve the most important conservation in the
most appropriate areas.
Our progress towards achieving these goals is
tracked by an annual program of Key Performance
Indicators that are reported quarterly to our board.
Our strategic goals fall into four main areas:
