Complete the
$500-million A Force
for Nature Campaign
Conserve close to
67,000 acres, providing
habitat for more than
126 species at risk
Raise at least $5.5
million for the Steward-
ship Endowment Fund
Ensure a total budget
of $86.5 million
Secure renewed federal
and provincial funding
A Force for Nature raised more
than $500 million and protected
752,000 acres (304,000 hectares)
of at-risk natural habitat across
Canada, home to more than
145 species at risk.
69,180 acres (28,000 hectares)
conserved, with 178 species at
risk observed on NCC’s
properties.
This goal was achieved.
Our revenue in 2013 grew by
21 percent to $94 million,
slightly above budget.
Federal grant extended for a
further period, totalling $20
million. Provincial funding
secured in all 10 provinces
was equivalent to $18,971,018.
Complete 130 projects
99 conservation projects
completed.
Although we didn’t complete
the number of projects, we com-
pleted fewer but larger projects,
exceeding our acreage goals.
More than double our
Leaders in Conservation
Program
Recruited 120 new LICs, which
is an increase of more than 30
percent.
We are continuously refining
the program and always looking
for ways to deliver more to such
an important group of donors.
Our goal is to deliver the best
donor stewardship possible
while continuing to grow.
Secure new sources of
funding for our
Conservation Volunteers
and intern programs
The Imperial Oil Foundation
supported 26 Conservation
Volunteers events across
Canada with a $100,000 gift.
Vale Canada Limited’s $80,000
gift supported three conserva-
tion internships in Ontario
throughout the field season.
We are continuing to seek
donors to support both our
Conservation Volunteers and
conservation intern programs.
Both initiatives are critical to
the delivery of priority steward-
ship work across Canada.
Develop an NCC
science plan
In progress.
Science is the cornerstone of
NCC’s conservation planning
process, driving our large and
small decisions. An initiative is
underway to make all of our
existing science practices more
effective to ensure we use every
donor dollar efficiently. This is
an ongoing process.
Develop a donor
satisfaction program
Enhanced donor stewardship
program implemented, and,
based on tests, expected to
raise retention from 36 percent
to close to 45 percent.
Publish the history
of NCC
Written by NCC board member
Bill Freedman, the 50-year
history of NCC was published
in the spring, to wide acclaim.
Approve 20 new/re-
newed Natural Area
Conservation Plans
Approved eight renewed
NACPs; 0 new NACPs.
A strategic decision was made
to not create new NACPs but to
focus instead on priority work
within existing NACPs.
